“I was staying in Japan and I wasn‘t really watching the news. I wasn‘t dramatic about it because it didn‘t concern Europe.“ - my mom T.
“When the attack first happened, I was in Newcastle, a city in England. I was doing some last minute shopping since our family had planned to fly to Prague, Czech Republic, the very next day. A cluster of people were gathered around TV shop windows, staring at the screeen, a mesmerised, yet horrified look on their faces, pale as ghosts. I remembered stopping, not knowing what was going on. Once I found out what had happened, I was petrified. The thought of travelling with kids the very next das was extremely worrying, and it scared me. The airport security has been very different from that day on, and it has never been the same since. My thoughts go out to all families affected.“ -Father of four
"I was at home and I was watching TV. I felt terrible and I was very interested in it. It was talked about everywhere. Since that time I have been very afraid of terrorists." My mum A.
“I had a night shift at the hospital. When I went to the patient in the clinic there was TV in the waiting room. On the TV there was news about the accident at the twin towers. In the beginning I did not pay attention to it and went to the patient. Then I realized that it was a very horrible thing. I felt anxious and unsafe. I was worried about the future of humanity.“ My dad Michael
“We were moving so I noticed a little later, since I was really busy. For me it wasn‘t that big of a deal, since it wasn‘t in our country and I had my head full of other things. “
My aunt S.
"I was looking after my son because he was little and I was watching TV. When I saw it I was afraid and I felt sorry for all the victims and families." My mum R.
“I just remember seeing everybody with a speck of panic in their eyes…“ is what my mum said when I asked her that question. The day was 11th September 2001. Everybody in the US was watching the events unfold in disbelief. Meanwhile here in the town of Bučovice everybody was rather calm, especially in the morning. But when the afternoon news came, the atmosphere changed immediately. “I didn‘t really know about the Tuesday‘s events until the next day. That‘s when I learned about the terrorist attack. Your dad and I went over to a friend‘s place because we wanted to light candles as a memory of the lives lost. It was a really quiet and sad day for us.“ My mum Z.
“I was working the whole morning and afternoon. When I arrived home and turned on the TV I was in shock. I saw the news about the 9/11 accident everywhere and it was horrible. I called my husband and we both couldn‘t believe what had happend. I have been a bit uneasy about safety since then.“ My mum Jane
“I was at home working on the house and then I saw it on TV. I wasn’t afraid that it could happen in this country too.“
My dad said: “It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon in September. I was at work when they reported the disaster on the radio. In the evening we watched the news about it on the TV.
It was horrible.”
